Facial Surgical Procedures

Eye Lid Lift–Blepharoplasty

The eyes are the windows of the face and give away our age more than any other facial feature. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is performed to surgically remove the fat deposits and loose skin that have formed over time on the upper and/or lower eyelids. Many factors, including heredity and sun damage, accelerate these changes.

Younger people often elect to undergo eyelid surgery to eliminate puffiness of the eyes from congenital excess fatty tissue. Older people with severe ptosis (a medical condition causing the upper eyelids to severely droop and interfere with peripheral vision) often elect to undergo this procedure to correct their vision. Eyelid surgery is frequently combined with a brow lift or face lift for a more dramatic facial rejuvenation.

Face Lift–Rhytidectomy

As we age, our facial skin loosens and wrinkles and the underlying facial muscles weaken. The many factors that cause the skin to lose elasticity will hasten the process, including sun exposure, weight fluctuations and heredity. Dr. Kirk A. Churukian uses face lift surgery, or rhytidectomy, at his office near San Jose to address these problems.

Face lift surgically removes and tightens the skin and underlying muscles of the face and neck. Typically, a face lift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face (jowls and neck), and does not correct problems around the eyes and forehead. These areas are addressed through blepharoplasty and/or brow lift, and can sometimes be done at the same time as face lift. The platysma lift is typically combined with the face lift procedure for proper correction. Dr. Churukian will work closely with you to choose the right technique for your procedure.

Every procedure is customized to address and improve the areas of the face that reveal the signs of aging. By tightening the deeper structures that support the face and restoring contour, a well-rested and youthful look is returned. Dr. Kirk A. Churukian offers unparalleled face lift, midface lift, mini “c” lift, and other facial plastic surgery procedures to patients from Los Gatos, San Jose, and the surrounding areas in order to help them achieve a fresher, more vibrant appearance.

Forehead & Brow Lift–Endoscopic Brow Lift

Drooping or lowering of the eyebrows is frequently one of the earliest signs of aging. This condition is often overlooked because most people are unaware of the problem and the marked improvement its correction can provide. Endoscopic brow lift or forehead lift is a procedure that offers a natural and subtle aesthetic enhancement of the brow area.

The muscles and tissues of the forehead are surgically altered through three to four tiny incisions hidden in the hairline. To create a more youthful facial appearance, forehead lifts or brow lifts are often combined with eyelid surgery and face lift surgery, which creates a more dramatic rejuvenation.

Nose–Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can correct a variety of undesirable conditions, including difficulty with breathing (corrected by a procedure called septoplasty), an oversized nose, a hump on the bridge, an undesirable shape of the nasal tip, or a narrow or wide span of the nostrils. Rhinoplasty can also correct problems caused by narrow or partially obstructed nostrils. Nose surgery is often performed in conjunction with chin or cheekbone implants to better balance the face.

Ear Reshaping–Otoplasty

For many adults and children, having large ears leads to ridicule and extreme self-consciousness. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reduce large or protruding ears by setting the ears back closer to the head as well as molding, shaping, and/or removing cartilage. Often the problem is caused by an undeveloped middle fold of the ear. There may be other deformities as well, making it necessary to perform several procedures on the ear at the same time.

Otoplasty can be performed at any age after the ears have reached (or nearly reached) their full size, which is around five to six years of age. This surgery is performed on the young and not-so-young alike; however, it is most often performed on children between the ages of five and 14.
